Introducing wee Anharika

clock October 17, 2009 10:32 by author Doug

Anharaka and her proud daddy, Chandra

Anharika was born on Tuesday 13th at 16:00, both mother and daughter are well and her daddy is obviously very proud. So he should be, she's a wee cracker!

We always knew that one day Chandra would prove to be a productive member of the Mimtech team ...only joking Chandra.

Storm Clouds in this T-Mobile announcement to their Sidekick customers

clock October 11, 2009 14:00 by author Doug
T-MOBILE AND MICROSOFT/DANGER STATUS UPDATE ON SIDEKICK DATA DISRUPTION

Dear valued T-Mobile Sidekick customers:

T-Mobile and the Sidekick data services provider, Danger, a subsidiary of Microsoft, are reaching out to express our apologies regarding the recent Sidekick data service disruption. We appreciate your patience as Microsoft/Danger continues to work on maintaining platform stability, and restoring all services for our Sidekick customers.

Regrettably, based on Microsoft/Danger’s latest recovery assessment of their systems, we must now inform you that personal information stored on your device – such as contacts, calendar entries, to-do lists or photos – that is no longer on your Sidekick almost certainly has been lost as a result of a server failure at Microsoft/Danger. That said, our teams continue to work around-the-clock in hopes of discovering some way to recover this information. However, the likelihood of a successful outcome is extremely low. As such, we wanted to share this news with you and offer some tips and suggestions to help you rebuild your personal content. You can find these tips at the T-Mobile Sidekick Forums (http://www.t-mobile.com/sidekick ). We encourage you to visit the Forums on a regular basis to access the latest updates as well as FAQs regarding this service disruption.

In addition, we plan to communicate with you on Monday (Oct. 12) the status of the remaining issues caused by the service disruption, including the data recovery efforts and the Download Catalog restoration which we are continuing to resolve. We also will communicate any additional tips or suggestions that may help in restoring your content.

We recognize the magnitude of this inconvenience. Our primary efforts have been focused on restoring our customers’ personal content. We also are considering additional measures for those of you who have lost your content to help reinforce how valuable you are as a T-Mobile customer.

We continue to advise customers to NOT reset their device by removing the battery or letting their battery drain completely, as any personal content that currently resides on your device will be lost.

Once again, T-Mobile and Microsoft/Danger regret any and all inconvenience this matter has caused.

Statistics never lie but liars use Statistics

clock April 2, 2009 10:27 by author Doug
You know how it goes... statisticians are rolled out to spin any set of figures to emphasis how well a company is doing regardless of the reality of the situation - why do I keep thinking of the RBS Rights Issue last year?

Here at Mim:towers we could spin our first quarter year-on-year sales to show a rise of 38%, 48% or even 64% but let's not go there and simply settle on the lowest 38%. That's good enough for me during the credit crunch!

Not so "Lean"

clock January 27, 2009 09:28 by author Doug

Got a call from Kathleen this morning at 07:30, she's running another Kaizen this week and had had a bad drive out to Livingston because one of her headlight bulbs had gone. She wanted to see if I could swing round past a Halfords on my way to the office to get a replacement. Even better says me, I'll get a spare bulb and pop into Livingston on my way to Glasgow and replace the bulb before tonight's drive home... Kaizen weeks feature early mornings and late nights.

So I think its better to check online to see what bulb I need  for a "see you baby, see you shakin' that ass" car and couldn't believe what I found - try Googling "renault megane headlight bulb" and you'll see what I mean.

Unbelievable! Considering the motor industry through Toyota is at the heart of Lean management it's a pity the techniques of continual improvement haven't reached Renault.

Aberdeen 4 Celtic 2

clock January 18, 2009 16:14 by author Doug
I'm old enough to remember the Aberdeen FC glory years under Alex Ferguson and living in Aberdeen at the time was lucky to be able to say "I was there" for most of the league title and cup wins. Missed the Cup Winner's Cup final in Sweden but did watch it live in the Harriet Street Bar, long demolished but not forgotten! Anyway, I digress, my fellow Directors at Mimtech are young pups from Glasgow who are ignorant of the New Firm years and find it hard to believe that Aberdeen and Dundee United (beat Barcelona home and away in 1986/87 emulating the 66/67 side!) once ruled the roost and the Old Firm of Celtic and Rangers played to half empty home crowds. In those days a victory over the Old Firm was expected, alas those days are long gone but this afternoon Aberdeen turned back the clock to record a 4-2 victory over Celtic so maybe better days are just around the corner for the New Firm although at time of writing Dundee United are getting beat by Motherwell 0-4 at home so maybe not!

You say potato, I say...

clock January 8, 2009 11:20 by author Doug
Whilst giving our latest newsletter its final edit yesterday morning prior to publication the most contentious issue causing the most debate was my spelling of swop rather than swap. Both spellings are okay to use with swap leaning more towards American English. John and Simon agreed that swap was the most common and therefore correct spelling whereas I favoured swop. Mimtech is a democratic company and a 2/1 majority between the Directors rules, however in this case the master copy of the newsletter was 'locked'  on my pc and I had the publish button ( Laughing ) so for any readers out there I take full responsibility for the use of swop. Please address any complaints accordingly!

2. Mimtech have developed MIM:SWITCH, our migration toolset that can automate your content move to another solution by connecting directly into the repository via Obtree/Livelink’s API.

3. MIM:SWITCH has been endorsed by Open Text and is their migration solution of choice for users migrating to RedDot.

4. Mimtech is vendor agnostic and can supply web content management software from all the leading vendors including; EPiSERVER, Sitecore, Immediacy and RedDot.

5. Mimtech can supply web content management software on a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) rental business model.

Why does internet = late nights?

clock December 9, 2008 01:04 by author Doug
We've all been trying to knock-out the new Mimtech website over the last few weeks between 'real' work but one of the things that hasn't changed in the online world since most of us jumped onboard in the early '90s is the strange fact that the only way to release a new website is after midnight!!!

Check out the new (almost completed!) Mimtech website at http://www.mimtech.com/.

But... it was clearly a header

clock November 19, 2008 08:25 by author Doug

Had to post this as a follow on from Simon's blog yesterday...

As the Tartan Army prepare to present Maradona tonight with that belated Player of the Year 1986 award it seems only fair to put to rest the 'Hand of God' controversy once and for all.

When faced with evidence like this photograph all fair minded sports fans north of the border can reach only one collective conclusion... it was clearly a header. Obviously, those of you south of the border (plus our Assistant Manager Terry Butcher - very nice man, did an excellent job of hosting my weddng reception but that's another story) will shout "hand ball" but just imagine if you will that at the time the photograph was taken Maradona had already headed the ball towards goal past Shilton and the arm in the air is just the natural body movement of someone jumping up. The 'Hand of God' was simply an optical illusion propigated by the tabloid press south of the border to explain away the quarter-final defeat all those years ago. Honest it was!
